The 2023 Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum Cup Series opens with an exhibition race at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, February 5 (2/5/2023) at 8 p.m. ET. It’s known as the Busch Light Clash and Justin Haley secured the pole position for Sunday’s 8 p.m. EST start. It’s actually the 45th running of the event, which called Daytona International Speedway home since 1979. Reigning Cup Series champion Joey Logano outlasted Kyle Busch to win the inaugural race at the Coliseum last year. Following four heat races, the main event will feature 27 drivers in a 150-lap race. The Clash is just an exhibition race. But its aftershocks can be seismic; eight drivers who have captured the checkered flag at the Clash have gone on to hoist the Cup Series trophy at the end of the year, including reigning champion Joey Logano. With the offseason officially coming to an end, the NASCAR Cup Series makes its return to the Los Angeles Coliseum tonight for 150 laps on the quarter-mile track under the lights as Joey Logano looks to repeat in this event. Logano’s run to his second Cup Series title began with a victory at the Coliseum in 2022 before winning four races during the regular season including the playoff finale in Phoenix. 23-year-old Justin Haley set the fastest lap at qualifying on Saturday and will start out front for one of the four heat races to determine the field of 27.
